Huawei (Vodafone) HG659 VDSL & ADSL Connection Setup

To setup the Connection:

  • Connect modem to power
  • Connect modem to DSL
  • Connect modem to computer (i.e.: PC or laptop)

On your computer, launch your Web Browser (e.g.: Internet Explorer, Chrome or Firefox).

Telecom: 

  • Open Web Browser
  • Type 192.168.1.254 in address bar
  • Enter Username as admin (default)
  • Enter Password as admin (default)

Vodafone: 

  • Open Web browser
  • Type 192.168.1.1 in address bar
  • In the Username field enter Admin
  • In the Password field enter VF-NZhg659 

*Please note, if your firmware has been updated on Vodafone modem, the password will be @last 8 digits of the modem serial (the serial can be found at the back of the modem)* ex. @12345678.

IMPORTANT, please note that you MUST enter the @ symbol before the serial number

 

Setting up ADSL profile: (these steps apply to both Vodafone and Telecom branded modems)

  • Click 'Internet' from the top menu
  • Click 'Internet Settings' from the left
  • If there are settings under internet_vdsl and internet_ethernet, click 'Delete', otherwise continue to the next step
  • Expand 'New WAN connection' and click 'Edit'

 

In the Basic Information section complete the following fields: 

 

  • Enable connection: Ticked
  • Service type: INTERNET and TR069 should be ticked
  • Access type: ATM Uplink 
  • Connection type: IP Routing (PPP)
  • MRU: 1492
  • MSS:
  • NAT: NAPT 

 

In the Link Information section complete the following fields: 

 

  • VPI/VCI: 0/100
  • Link mode: PPPoA 
  • Service type: UBR without PCR 
  • Encapsulation mode: VC-MUX 

 

In the PPP Information section complete the following fields:

 

  • PPP authentication mode: Auto 
  • PPP trigger mode: Always online 
  • Internet account: PPP Username
  • Internet password: PPP Password
  •  Click 'Save'

Your PPP Username will look like '12345678@flip.co.nz'.

Setting up VDSL profile: (these steps apply to both Vodafone and Telecom branded modems)

  • Click Internet from the top menu.
  • Click Internet Settings from the left. 
  • Locate Internet_VDSL (PPP not Ethernet)
  • Click Edit

 Ensure the following settings are saved:

 

  • Enable Connection: Ticked
  • Service Type: Internet, TR069 and VOICE are all ticked
  • Connection Type: IP routing (PPP)
  • Access type: PTM Uplink 
  • MRU: 1492
  • MSS: 0
  • NAT Type: NAPT
  • Dsl Mode: VDSL2
  • Enable VLAN: Ticked
  • VLAN ID: 10
  • 802.1p: 0
  • PPP Authentication mode: PAP 
  • PPP Trigger Mode: Always Online
  • Internet Account: PPP Username
  • Internet Password: PPP Password
  • PPP Service Name: <leave blank>
  • IP Protocol Version: IPv4 + IPv6
  • Static DNS: un ticked
  • IPv6 Addressing Type: SLAAC

If any changes have been made, click Save

Your PPP Username will look like '12345678@flip.co.nz'.
